WebJul 25, 2024 · Flat-type noninvasive carcinoma (ie, devoid of papillary structures) is called urothelial carcinoma in situ (CIS) and is, by definition, high grade. Urothelial CIS consists of large pleomorphic and hyperchromatic cells, often with loss of cellular polarity and crowding. These malignant cells need not comprise the full thickness of the urothelium.
